IMI Precision Engineering Supplier Development Engineer in Auburn, Washington

Overview

The Supplier Development Engineer is the primary point of contact between GT Development and its suppliers on matters related to initial part qualification and effective quality issue resolution. The Supplier Development Engineer supports both the Quality and the Materials Groups by ensuring that parts, materials, and sub-assemblies received from suppliers consistently conform to GT specified requirements. This position also has the responsibility for assuring that supplier selection and qualification, and supplier maintenance, development and change activities are conducted in accordance with organization requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develops supply base, driving improvements in supplier quality, delivery, cost and systems.

  • Coordinates with suppliers for compliance with GT’s corrective action requests, assuring that actions taken are timely and effective.

  • Supports the introduction of new and derivative products (NPI, DPI) by:

  • Communicating process and technical requirements to the supplier.

  • Providing guidance to supplier, as needed.

  • Coordinating timely resolution of quality issues, if/as they develop.

  • Assuring required information is received from the supplier.

  • Providing input for the supplier analysis process

  • Coordinates supplier change activities, assuring change schedule is maintained.

  • Conducts quality system assessments of suppliers as required.

  • Maintains the Approved Supplier List, assuring suppliers meet or exceed GTs minimum requirements.

  • Maintains the Supplier Quality Requirements Manual.

  • Compiles and reports supplier performance information both internally and to the suppliers.

  • Refines the supplier rating systems to reflect the actual cost of doing business.

  • Solicits cost savings and/or manufacturability suggestions from the supply base. Understands and clearly communicates technical detail.

  • Manages projects related to supplier development, as needed.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university plus more than 2 years related experience.OR

  • 7+ years of experience in similar position within the manufacturing industry.

Skills

  • Familiarity with TS-16949, ISO-9001:2000, and ISO-14000 quality system standards.

  • Experience managing projects.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, blueprints or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and manufacturing personnel.

  • Ability to work with computer software programs such as MS Word, MS Access and MS Excel.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and see. Close vision and the ability to adjust focus are required.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, and is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Some travel, including air travel, is required. Must have a valid driver’s license.
