IMI Precision Engineering Quality Engineer in Brookville, Ohio

Our Brookville Ohio location, estabilished for over 50 years and leading manufacturer of pneumatic actuators, is looking to add a dedicated and experienced Quality Engineer to their team. This is a full-time opportunity for an employee oriented organization that offers the following:

The Quality Engineer develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for Norgren, Inc. Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place. Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment. Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications. Audits sub contractor quality systems for deficiency identification and correction. Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.


  • Processing of returned goods (RGA) covered under warranty including non-warranty repairs. This includes receipt, designation of appropriate department for evaluation (repair requirements and warranty status), assignment of corrective and preventative action as necessary, communicating results to customer, initiating repair requirements, scheduling the return commitments and final close of the return.

  • Maintain accuracy in both measurement and data collection that will substantiate the integrity of the NORGREN quality assurance system.

  • Ensure customer satisfaction with NORGREN products by performing the measurement, data collection, and certification on parts and products entering the manufacturing process and/or being shipped to the customer.

  • Ensure accurate information systems to allow for a viable ship-to-stock program to be maintained. Monitoring the quality performance of ship-to-stock and/or factored product so that the inspection levels/frequencies can be assigned accordingly.

  • Maintain a level of efficiency to achieve the required data collection while causing no delays in the transfer of required production materials to manufacturing.

  • Timely reporting of any discovered product or process abnormalities that may be detrimental to the quality of NORGREN product.

  • Perform inspection of suspect/rejected product and report results on the appropriate non-conforming document or deviation form; including receiving, in process, or during first article inspection.

  • Work in conjunction with manufacturing, engineering, and other NORGREN departments to perform failure analysis and investigate root cause in order to develop robust corrective action plans for customer complaints, returned goods (RGA’s), warranty claims and internal findings.

  • Provide support to Manufacturing, Machining, and other production areas regarding product quality, inspection, and disposition of non-conforming product.

  • Maintain the rejection cabinet, working in conjunction with Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and the Planning departments (as appropriate) to ensure a timely disposition of suspect product and accurate inventory transactions.

  • Administer the calibration system for all measuring equipment, including scheduling, arranging third-party services, conducting the calibration itself (in-house), repair, replacement, and MSA studies.

  • Support the Quality Engineer and other related personnel on matters pertaining to inspection, calibration, measuring systems analysis (MSA studies), return authorizations (RMA), nonconforming product, and metrics performance. Provide training to other members of the Quality or Manufacturing departments on inspection procedures and techniques, as well as the supervision and/or assignment of other activities which include testing and evaluation.

  • Assist with preventative action, kaizen events, and continual improvement initiatives.

  • Participate in quality departmental meetings regarding associated metrics reporting on 6S/Lean activities.

  • Maintain on-going industry knowledge and quality best practices.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience

  • Experience in Test & Evaluation, DVP creation and coordination, Laboratory Environment is desirable

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Mechanical Engineering preferred), Science related technical degree, or have demonstrated equivalent expertise through experience.

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment; experience with pneumatic product preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  1. Ability to read and interpret blueprints (including GD&T), engineering specifications, and technical procedures.

  2. Ability to work with a variety of measuring devices, including handheld gauges to more sophisticated, software-driven equipment such as CMM or vision systems.

  3. Knowledge of gauge calibration tracking software (such as GAGEpack or other similar systems).

  4. Must be mechanically inclined and possess the ability to perform and interpret statistical analyses for statistical process control (SPC).

  5. Knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements and proficiency with other industry standard quality techniques such as root cause analysis and the AIAG procedures, including but not limited to PPAP, MSA, and APQP requirements.

  6. Effectively achieve accuracy, timeliness, efficiency and economy of performing assigned projects.

  7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and respect for diversity. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in all business related matters.

  8. Excellent planning, analytical, organizational and problem solving skills. Strong technical writing skills (for report generation) are essential.

  9. Familiarity with software products such as Minitab (or other similar statistical software), Microsoft Excel, Word, & Powerpoint, and the ability to use them effectively for report generation, presentations, and communicating to others the results of product quality investigations.

  10. Strong technical writing skills. Ability to effectively communicate the results of supplier/customer visits through written trip reports.

  11. Communicate effectively and efficiently in all business related matters.

Computers and Technology

  1. Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook) and software products such as Minitab and the ability to use them effectively for report generation. Microsoft Visio and MOAE report generation a plus.

  2. Ability to use industry standard personal computers (PCs) and PC applications including Excel, Power Point and Word.

  3. Must be able to perform effective searches on the internet for procurement of test fixture supplies.

  4. Knowledge of DAQ Data Collection system is highly desirable.

  5. Knowledge of electrical theory and applications.

  6. Ability to understand and use ERP systems

Certificates and Licenses

  1. CQE certification through ASQ preferred.

  2. Lean Six Sigma Black Belt a plus.
