The Supplier Development Engineer is the primary point of contact between IMI and its suppliers in matters relating to Purchased Production Part Approval, Defect Prevention/Detection and the effective resolution of supplier quality issues through Supplier Corrective Actions. The SDE sets clear Zero Defects and On Time Delivery expectations, assesses quality gaps in the supply bas. This is achieved through a partnership with suppliers providing training and support to reduce supplier parts per million and IMI risks associated with non-conforming material. Additionally, the SDE supports the Procurement, Quality and Production team by ensuring that parts, materials, and sub-assemblies received from suppliers consistently conform to IMI specified requirements. The SDE is responsible to support supplier selection and qualification, supplier maintenance, development and change activities are conducted in accordance with IMI requirements.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Develops supply base, driving improvements in supplier quality, delivery, cost and systems.

  • Ensuring the suppliers meet the business needs in terms of responsible business,health and safety

  • Responsible for Supplier Corrective Action management and driving supplier to mitigate root cause of quality issues.

  • Supports the introduction of new and derivative products through the Product Approval Process by:

  • Providing guidance to supplier, as needed.

  • Coordinating timely resolution of quality issues, if/as they develop.

  • Assuring required information is received from the supplier and communicated internally as appropriate.

  • Champions or supports supplier change requests

  • Conducts supplier quality system assessment audits as required.

  • Responsible for maintaining supplier performance KPIs, both visual and electronic utilized to populate monthly supplier scorecards and communicate internally the supplier’s performance.

  • Solicits cost savings and/or manufacturability suggestions from the supply base and supports VAVE. Understanding and clearly communicating technical detail.

  • Accountable for the creation and maintenance of supplier quality training materials utilized for the development of IMI’s strategic suppliers. Maintains Supplier Training Matrix and supplier recognition process.


Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree from college or university is preferable

  2. Qualification in Quality or Supply Chain Management is also preferableSkills and Competencies


  1. Five Years related experience

  2. Familiarity with TS-16949, ISO-9001:2000, and ISO-14000 quality system standards or other globally recognized quality standards and systems applicable to business requirements

  3. Experience managing projects and cross functional teams.

  4. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, blueprints or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and manufacturing personnel.


  1. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, pareto and statistics

  2. Ability to define problems collects data, establish trends, and draw valid conclusions.

  3. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

  4. Strong interpersonal skills

  5. Some travel, including air travel, is required. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Computers and Technology

Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)


Six sigma black belt preferable
