IMI Precision Engineering Area Supervisor in Farmington, Connecticut

The Area Supervisor is responsible for planning, scheduling, training and directing the activities of the line, including personnel. Working under the written or verbal direction of the Area Supervisor or Business Unit Manager, the incumbent will assist with the methods, materials and personnel needed to meet production schedules and quality standards on a timely and efficient basis. Additionally, the incumbent will facilitate continuous improvement and personnel training necessary to adequately perform the assigned duties.


  • Ensure quality products and efficient production through effective training, direction, and motivation of employees in the assigned area of responsibility.

  • Ensure that effective scheduling of production and personnel assignments result in maintaining on-time delivery of customer orders.

  • Encourage and promote flexibility of the work force through competent training, unbiased evaluation, and proper motivation of the personnel.

  • Minimize scrap and rework by recommending and implementing corrective or preventive methods and procedures, and through correct interpretation of documentation.

  • Ensures all 8D and corrective actions are implemented.

  • Provide an environment whereby a positive team atmosphere is built by emphasizing effective and constructive communication.

  • Offer constructive suggestions for future production requirements and growth of the area/department.

  • Assure that quality and training records are correctly maintained in the department.

  • Serve as the ISO contact for audits, providing and maintaining appropriate records.

  • Guide, direct, counsel and maintain effective discipline over subordinates.

  • Work within the parameters of established department guidelines.

  • Seek appropriate approval of terminations, promotions, demotions, and wage or salary increases.

  • Oversees the training and evaluation of employee skill levels, effectiveness of tools and other machines.

  • Recommend means to help broaden employee knowledge and strengthen the quality and productivity of the area.

  • Ensure tools and machines are properly maintained and promptly coordinate repairs to minimize and avoid quality and productivity problems.

  • Drive continuous improvement through lean manufacturing practices throughout the area.

  • Ensure all staff complies with company and regulatory health, safety and environmental requirements.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

  • Previous experience in manufacturing or assembly environments preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Work effectively under tight deadlines.

  • Perform basic math using different units of measure.

  • Fluent in reading and speaking English.

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and measuring devices.

  • Understand blueprints and other technical drawings.

Supervisory Responsibilities Work Environment and Physical Demands

This position will be responsible for monitoring and directing the work for one of more employees. This position will assist in training employees on proper procedures and methods for performing job duties and responsibilities.

Work Environment

  • Manual Dexterity - The ability to quickly make coordinated movements of one hand, a hand together with its arm, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects

  • Control Precision -The ability to quickly and repeatedly make precise adjustments in moving the controls of a machine or vehicle to exact positions

  • Finger Dexterity - The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects

  • Wrist-Finger Speed - The ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists

  • Near Vision — the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

  • Hearing at 100% (or corrected)

  • Pulling/Pushing up to 400 pounds with Assistance
