IMI Precision Engineering Commercial Operations Analyst in Farmington, Connecticut

The Commercial Analyst, Life Science is responsible to support the management, commercial, internal operations, and engineering teams to prepare quotations for customers; analyze, track, and recommend pricing for “catalog products” and custom projects; complete ad hoc analyses of customer lists and product lines to assess business performance and make recommendations to improve business performance. Strong analytical skills and ability to collaborate effectively across departments and within a matrix organization that is dynamic and moves quickly.

The individual in this role is essential to our team in analyzing new business opportunities, developing project proposals and supporting customer quoting and contracting activity, and analyzing commercial (sales & activity) performance, while making recommendations to improve that performance


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with members of management, sales & marketing, engineering, and operations teams to analyze new business or project opportunities and develop proposals and pricing based on project scope, resources, expenses, and investments pricing that meet business objectives (sales, growth, margins, etc.)

  2. Collaborate with management, sales & marketing, engineering, and operations teams to develop quotations for customers and drive them through approval process to ensure they are delivered to customer on a timely basis, product management, engineering and operations to deliver timely and accurate quotes

  3. Prepare periodic sales reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc.) to provide accurate, timely management information regarding sales performance vs budgets, targets, and other key performance indicators, etc.

  4. Track and report status of customer sales activity, customers under contract, pricing, etc. and recommend pricing initiatives and actions needed ahead of contract renewals

  5. As requested, complete analysis of customer and product lines of business to assess profitability and recommend changes to improve business performance

  6. Maintain sufficient level of understanding of general business conditions and market dynamics, as well as competitor activities, to recommend pricing policies and changes to those policies

  7. Perform other responsibilities as assigned based on business needs



Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business/Accounting/Finance from an accredited institution

  2. Minimum 5 years of experience with financial budgeting, forecasting, accounting and/or financial reporting

  3. 2-3 years experience in analytic roles as part of a sales management team

  1. Strong analytic skills (financial, accounting, marketing) and ability to “toggle” between “the big picture” and little details – with flexibility and accuracy

  2. Highly polished communication skills with the ability to develop and deliver solid, data driven, compelling project proposals and management reports

  3. Strong interpersonal skills to interact and collaborate across departments, influence others within the organization, and contribute to highly effective team behavior

  4. Ability to operate effectively in highly matrixed organization that is dynamic and moves quickly

  5. Proven leadership skills with record of driving improved business results

  6. Must be a self-starter who takes accountability and operates with high level of urgency and integrity

  7. Must be willing to travel when required in the US and Canada up to 15% of the time with overnight travel

Computers & Technology

  1. Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook); emphasis placed on MS Excel (vlookups, nested formulas, etc.) and Access

  2. Proficient with JDE, Oracle, SAP or similar business intelligence or enterprise reporting system platform applications

  3. Proficient with Hyperion financial tools or other similar financial consolidating systems
