IMI Precision Engineering Designer II in Farmington, Connecticut

Reports To: Staff Engineer

Location: Farmington, CT

Designer II will be an integral team member for new product development and/or sustaining engineering programs. Works closely with design engineering to create models and detailed drawings with provided specifications for fluid dispensing products, components, tools, and controls using computer aided design (CAD) software by applying industry standard practices under minimal to no supervision.


  • Create complex 3D models and generate engineering drawings to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems, and machines.

  • Coordinate with and consult others to design, layout, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems.

  • Perform thorough tolerance stack up analysis and apply appropriate GD&T callouts to meet design intent and enable ease of manufacturing.

  • Perform basic mechanical analysis and calculation to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery.

  • Create detailed Bill of Materials (BOM) for manufacturing and assembly.

  • Layout, draw and reproduce illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of mechanical systems.

  • Maintain engineering/product database and library for integrity and revision control.

  • Administer Engineering Change Order (ECO) activities and champion document control processes.

  • Mentor entry level designers and engineers.

  • May serve as an administrator for CAD and PDM software.

Education /Experience

  • Associate of Applied Science, certificate or equivalent required

  • Greater than 5 years of experience in related field required

  • Advanced knowledge of GD&T

Computer Skills

  • Proficient in Solidworks, Pro Engineer or other CAD software

  • Infor Visual, JD Edwards or other ERP systems

  • Microsoft Office or other productivity tools

Skills /Abilities

  • Solid understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes

  • Demonstrated commitment to quality, continuous improvement and professionalism.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to process multiple types of information and or perform multiple tasks simultaneously with competing priorities. Solid organization and time management skills.
