We are seeking a professional who is passionate about Medical Solutions & Improvement to join our team in the role Sr Applications Engineer!

Overview

The Sr. Applications Engineer works directly with customers to understand their technical needs and recommend standard IMI product or develop new custom solutions for their specific application. The position is highly customer facing, including travel to customer locations, and requires significant coordination across internal departments of the company. The goal of this position is to provide the highest level of Engineering support to IMIs customers by specifying existing or developing new designs that leverage IMIs technical capabilities and maximize value for our customers.

Responsibilities

  1. Understand IMI’s complete range of capabilities and products. Perform technical qualifications of product and assembly solutions. Asses, understand and communicate the value proposition of IMI’s solution to the customer.

  2. Provide the highest quality level of technical product support to all sales channels and other internal customers in a timely manner. This support may include but not limited to technical product answers, developing and presenting conceptual and detailed product concepts and drawings, recommending appropriate part numbers, etc.

  3. Receive, evaluate, prioritize, and process opportunities for modified product and customer engineered product opportunities.

  4. Design cost effective solutions for a customers specific application by optimizing material requirements, machining operations, manufacturing labor, and sub-contractor’s capabilities.

  5. Quote the opportunity by conceptually designing the appropriate solution, developing a written description of the solution, estimating the cost of the solution, applying the desired margin to the special components or complete solution, rolling up a final price for the solution, conveying this information onto a quote form in accordance to the current standards.

  6. “No Quote” an opportunity by professionally communicating to the requester a business case as to why we are not quoting the opportunity.

  7. Evaluate and troubleshoot product performance and failures via phone, via email, in person at customer locations or on actual returned product.

  8. Develop strong relationships with the various sales channels to promote our Engineering capabilities and willingness to advise and develop custom solutions.

  9. Coordinate measures on required daily functions.

  10. Provide input to Marketing on technical aspects of our products and applications, sales literature, catalogs, website, etc.

  11. Continually identify and implement continuous improvement ideas within the AE processes.

  12. Assist Project Management and New Product Development technical teams as required.

  13. Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

BSME (or equivalent) and a minimum of 8 years engineering experience, preferably in life science component design.

Skills

  • Must have above average verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must have a good working knowledge of CAD and 3-D Modeling.

  • Requires competent engineering and technical judgment.

  • Must demonstrate excellent problem solving skills.

  • Must work well individually, self motivated demonstrating initiative and accepting responsibility with minimal supervision.
