We specialize in providing innovative engineering services, custom design and manufacturing solutions to our customers and are looking for an Distribution Product Sales Engineer to join our growing team.
This exciting position in the high-tech factory automation field will work with our larger distribution channel to drive sales by promoting our cutting edge electrical and mechanical products, by training the sales and distribution team. Additionally, this person will be building a team across multiple businesses within IMI. This will require a strong technical background to communicate the specifications for our customers to understand the value, as well as integrating into existing equipment. Excellent communication skills are key to working with our customers, and the primary role of the position is to train our regional sales managers along with our distributors to allow them to confidentially promote the products. All interested can expect 50% of the time to be travelling.
Achieves customer specification for NAS products to be a standard, with success measured in sales growth. Drive Sales Management, Distribution Managers, Key Account Managers (KAM’s) to close the sale on achieved specifications.
Use sales driven customer information and knowledge to build detailed plans that support the sales budget for distribution sales goals.
Maintain a high level of technical competence in the assigned product specialty including but not limited to a thorough understanding of all products available in the assigned products throughout the IMI family of companies. The Product Sales Engineer should be the “Subject Matter Expert” on all things related to their assigned products.
Work with Sales Management, Channel Managers, Key Account Managers (KAMs), and Distribution Sales personnel to develop specific business and sales plans to achieve growth objectives including recommendations for new product development and other Company services in support of said plan.
Deliver results by showing the ability to identify and create opportunities, as well as, set goals that deliver profitability/ growth in the assigned products, tackle challenges head-on, respond quickly to obstacles in order to secure a competitive advantage.
Establish and maintain meaningful relationships with the key personnel internally and externally.
Maintain a general awareness of developments within the market to provide feedback on customer issues, competitor activities, pricing trends, consolidation activities, and marketing initiatives.
Work with internal sales to ensure accurate and complete account data within the company CRM system relative to: opportunity, forecasts, milestone dates and other information as required by management.
Provide timely and complete reports and other information as required by management.
Act in a positive and proactive manner, at all times, while presenting the Corporation, Division, its products and services, and policies.
Educate and act in a consistent manner within the scope and principles of the IMI Way.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering plus 5 years necessary related engineering experience, OR Associates Degree or relevant technical certification in related field plus 7 years of related engineering experience
3+ years of technical customer facing experience
Skills and Competencies
Experience and awareness of multiple industrial manufacturing’s markets, advanced applications and target accounts.
Have the ability to recognize, understand & create value through differentiation between company/products and competitor/products. As well as, present this differentiation in a compelling manner through written, verbal or graphical communication.
Demonstrate the ability to develop an internal network needed to support and grow their business. In addition the ability to build strong relationships with customers, distributors and KAM’s in order to accomplish their annual sales goals and objectives. This would include being able to efficiently work and effectively communicate with multiple departments and functional groups.
Excellent verbal, written and digital communication skills essential. They should also demonstrate the ability to communicate to multiple levels within external customers. Meaning the ability to effectively work with the procurement department, engineering team or maintenance staff.
Solid problem-solving abilities should be evident. A Product Sales Engineer should be able to asses a problem and either solve the problem or know where to go for help in solving the problem.
Diligence and determination to provide value by meeting the customer needs regardless of internal and external problems or obstructions. Essentially, demonstrating the Can-Do mentality in all they do. The Product Sales Engineer should also demonstrate leadership in this category, by influencing other people in Can-Do mentality. An individual accepts accountability and realizes excuses are not acceptable.
The ability to consistently meet deadlines and deliver accurate deliverables (reports, projects, etc.) to management, teams, customers. They should also demonstrate good time management skills by using a physical or digital tool to schedule their objective and agenda 2-4 weeks out.
Display willingness to learn by giving and receiving feedback and seeking every opportunity to take the business forward. A Product Sales Engineer takes initiative in all aspect of their professional life by taking ownership of their success through learning new skills, setting & achieving personal goals. They should also be open to ongoing coaching, related to the selling space and markets, the products and navigating the sales cycle.

Computers and Technology
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook), and comfortable with using a CRM system in your day to day sales activities.
