Overview

The Machinist Lead is a working lead responsible for assisting the assigned Supervisor in ensuring the safety, quality and productivity of an hourly workforce in order to achieve corporate, plant and departmental objectives. Under limited supervision, performs complex machining operations in support of production operations or shop machining.

Please note this position will be for midnight shift.

Responsibilities

  1. Lead, plan and perform machining of parts and products in accordance with drawings, specifications and material requirements.

  2. Performs machining of parts and products in accordance with drawings, specifications and material requirements.

  3. Performs Machine set-ups, tool offsets, edits and troubleshoots programs with minimal supervision.

  4. Aids in the training of Machine Operators and Machinists.

  5. Ensure standard operating procedures are followed and proper records are maintained in accordance within plant management system.

  6. Demonstrates, promotes, and enforces utilization of proper PPE all safety guidelines including LOTO.

  7. Responsible for coaching shift employees to improve safety, quality, and productivity in conjunction with Production Supervisor.

  8. Troubleshooting of problems or out-of-tolerance conditions. Provide support and guidance to team members as problems are identified. Seek solutions to minimize down-time and initiative actions to avoid like problems in the future.

  9. Ensure good work habits and safety precautions are being following and are present in the Manufacturing areas, including good housekeeping in work areas.

  10. Track key metrics on quality, productivity, safety and inventory usage and report daily when required.

  11. Demonstrates positive relations and teamwork as established in the IMI Way and Leadership Blueprint within the organization.

  12. Keeps work area clean and organized to insure safety and environmental compliance.

  13. Responsible for coaching shift employees to improve safety, quality, and productivity in conjunction with Production Supervisor.

  14. Monitor work area to insure safety and environmental compliance.

  15. Troubleshoot machinery to ensure production and product quality.

  16. Participate in periodic communication meetings with crew regarding safety, quality and productivity.

  17. Coordinates, conducts, and oversees new hire-training and employee cross-training; completes proper documentation.

  18. Models & promotes positive relations and teamwork within the organization.

  19. Works to resolve and notifies management of any necessary performance or disciplinary action.

  20. Forklift Certified.

  21. May act as shift supervisor when requested

  22. Leads in-process inspection efforts and calibration of tooling as scheduled.

  23. Ensure preventive maintenance of machines and tooling are current & in accordance with set standards. Update equipment maintenance logs as scheduled.

  24. Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality for scheduled shift. Notify supervisor in advance of time-off.

  25. Perform various assignments and tasks as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has supervisory responsibilities but may occasionally with direction from the Manufacturing Supervisor direct activities of others.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  1. High school Diploma.

  2. 5+ years direct work experience as a skilled, proven Machinist.

  3. Demonstrated excellent problem solving capabilities

  4. Proven effective interpersonal/communication skills.

Skills and Competencies

  1. Intermediate math skills

  2. GD&T familiarity

  3. Blueprint reading skills; technical training preferred

  4. Experience with Mastercam and Featurecam preferred.

Computers and Technology

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic computer skills. Good problem solving skills.
