IMI Precision Engineering Quality Technician (Advanced) in Saline, Michigan

The Quality Control Technician will work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and will play a leadership role in identifying opportunities to build seamless quality into the manufacturing processes and support lean concepts. TheQuality Control Technician will also organize and lead a cross functioning team in the development of manufacturing processes. The Quality Control Technician will also be expected to support engineering by evaluating drawings, specifications, and changes. This role requires a high level of understanding in quality/manufacturing standards and customer requirements. CMM experience is preferred.

  • Continuously looks for opportunities to build in lean quality control processes.

  • Designing check fixtures/functional gages in CAD program

  • Apply GD&T principals in everyday tasks

  • Lead team methodology and activities to identify nonconforming processes, product, and associated equipment.

  • Ownership of the nonconforming material system; implements containment and facilitates the disposition process.

  • Creates and ensures that established control plans are thorough, effective and utilized in all phases of production.

  • Follows proper operating procedures and maintains proper records in accordance within plant management system.

  • Lead problem solving activities in manufacturing operations to quickly identify and permanently resolve quality and productivity issues.

  • Performs audits related to the Quality Management System, design and manufacturing processes.

  • Maintains gage verification and calibration systems.

  • Conducts gage repeatability & reproducibility, and process capability studies if required.

  • Assist in the improvement of product.

  • Field customers complaints and work with supervision to initiate interim actions.

  • Organize and lead problem solving activities for customer quality issues by utilizing & supporting root cause analysis, planning corrective and preventive actions and verifying results.

  • Represents the Quality department as a point of contact for production support and manufacturing issues.

  • Support company quality goals and be able to fill in for Quality Manager in temporary situations.


Education and Experience

  • CMM experience preferred

  • Associates Degree – in related field

  • Experienced with CAD design

  • +4 years experience in quality control tools and methods.

  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience required.

  • Experience with lean manufacturing and problem solving tools (5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping) preferred.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail.

  • Effective organizational skills for various projects.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills relative to quality, technical and manufacturing issues.

  • Ability to understand complex situations and collect data to establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

  • Have advanced knowledge of the use of various hand-held and computer coordinate measuring devices.

  • Have advanced knowledge of the various quality systems tools and techniques (Advanced Problem Solving, Six Sigma, Black Belt, APQP, etc.)

  • Flexibility to adjust work hours to meet manufacturing schedule requirements.

  • Have knowledge in the use and programming of CMM equipment.

Computers and Technology

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint and statistical software.
