IMI Precision Engineering Plant Manager in University Park, Illinois



This position is responsible to lead the organization in top line and bottom line growth. The incumbent will direct, promote, and coordinate operations in a manner that will optimize market share and savings, improve efficiency through Lean principles, and achieve business objectives.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  1. Increase marketing, efficiencies, and profit position through effective leadership, anticipation of and planning for future business and operation challenges and opportunities.

  2. Partner with sales to develop and lead the business to ensure market share and profit growth.

  3. Ensure the preparation of timely and accurate budget/forecasts and will have Profit and Loss responsibilities.

  4. Develop and implement business plans, goals and objectives; both short and long range, to ensure profitable growth and increased customer satisfaction.

  5. Plan and oversee business’ production capital investments and schedules.

  6. Proactively manage pricing strategies to maximize profit.

  7. Ensure accountability from each functional department for achieving or exceeding goals, benchmarks and best practices.

  8. Foster a culture of Lean practices, driving continuous improvements in matters of quality and cost at all levels of business and each functional area.

  9. Manage business to comply with all company policies, procedures, ethics standards and regulations of local government.

  10. Maintain a review of the pneumatic actuator business ongoing domestic performance to assure results achieved are in line with IMI’s plans and strategies.

  11. Accountable for the selection, promotion, performance and optimum utilization of employees; ensuring qualified successors are readily available for major positions within the business.

  12. Establish functional objectives, standards of performance, and results measurements in key areas of the organization, interacting with Managers to resolve operating problems and difficulties.

  13. Through review of trade journals, attendance in seminars, trade association business meetings and exhibits, and contact with business associates, the GM will keep apprised of national and international marketing, sales, and economic trends that have the propensity to impact business decisions.

  14. The GM must demonstrate corporate community and social responsibility in accordance with IMI Responsible Business practices and initiatives.

  15. Other duties and projects as assigned.



Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Business Administration, and/or Mechanical Engineering – MBA a plus.

  2. 10 years related industry P&L experience and/or management experience, preferably in a Lean manufacturing environment.

  3. Experience in fluid component manufacturing a plus.

Skills and Competencies

  1. A demonstrated history of achieving optimum profit and business growth through effective planning and utilization of resources, facilities and organization.

  2. Understanding of the elements required for designing and implementing strategic business models.

  3. Sound knowledge of Lean methodology.

  4. Experience in implementing product and business plans to achieve maximum returns on assets and net profit consistent with corporate growth objectives.

  5. Organizational savvy and creative, analytical thinker, and a problem solver.

  6. Highly developed organizational skills with a strong work ethic and the ability to work on a number of complex projects at the same time.

  7. Demonstrated ability to forge and maintain effective and influential internal and external working relationships.

  8. Articulate communicator with excellent written and verbal presentation skills.

  9. A strong track record of optimal utilization of human resources through sound organizational structuring, development and measurement of management and professional personnel.

Computers and Technology

  1. Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)


  1. Lean Manufacturing Certification Preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for, but not limited to, performance management, coaching, supervision, fostering teamwork, training and development of one or more employees.
